Investment continues at Fencor Packaging Group Limited with the installation of a new high tech 3-colour flexographic printing press and die cutter.
The highly accurate press is set to enable customers to increase the quality of their 1, 2 3 and four colour print jobs with the added benefit of being able to use a lighter weight and lower cost material to print on in some scenarios.
The computer controlled machine is able to alter the pressure applied to the printing plate as it lays down ink onto the material to within 0.1mm, with a digital display giving visual verification for total accuracy.
The feed section places the print medium perfectly squarely into the vacuum transfer which then ensures that throughout the process it is kept square for a flawless and perfectly registered print.
On previous printers time had to be taken to allow excess ink to drain down, often resulting in wastage of some 6kgs of ink, whereas in this printer there is a return pump which collects and replaces ink thereby reducing wastage by some 70%.
An anvil trimmer, again computer controlled, makes sure that each cut is perfect and consistent every time by trimming the blanket that the blades cut into. The computer then measures the circumference, feeds the information back and allows the machine to adjust the drum speed which enables registration between print and die cut.
Once die cut the stripping element of the plant vibrates and uses air to ensure the stripped or waste materials are removed so that when the piece emerges it is stripped and clean and ready for use resulting in fast turnaround speeds.
All in all the ease of setting, the self clean and return pump all contribute to the speed of the process which is now more than doubled. In real terms the turnaround times are reduced by up to 40% … a very worthwhile, and cost saving reduction.
